RIBEIRA SACRA: Proposal for the declaration as an asset of cultural interest of the set of medieval churches of the cultural landscape

Commissioned by the Xunta de Galicia, he has written a report for the declaration as an Asset of Cultural Interest of the territorial system of churches of medieval origin in the cultural landscape of the Ribeira Sacra (Galicia-Spain), a place evaluated in 2020 as a candidate for its inscription on the World Heritage List.

The analysis of the complete list of temples proposed by the General Directorate of Heritage for the analysis and diagnosis of value attributes is proposed.

The present study, of analysis and evaluation of the group of Romanesque churches of the Ribeira Sacra, is part of the strategy of its declaration as BIC by the Xunta de Galicia.

With this objective, and without losing the necessary humanistic and speculative perspective on an aspect that is still cultural, reflective and social, this report proposes a work methodology that seeks a procedure that is as scientific as possible: an attempt to objectify what is which means a “most outstanding” patrimonial value in the area of Galicia for these assets. In this way, given that a specific and stricter regime than the current one could be considered, it is intended that it be supported by clear and easily verifiable justifications.
