BULWARKED FORTIFICATIONS OF THE ''RAIA'' (BORDER)

A technical-scientific analysis of the characteristics, attributes, and benchmarking of best practices in the field of bulwarked fortifications along the Raia.

technical and scientific analysis:

VALUES, ATTRIBUTES, AND BENCHMARKING OF BEST PRACTICES

Within the framework of the Study of Visitor Routes to the Fortified Heritage Site, as well as the Visitor Management System, Including Ticketing and Access Control, and commissioned by its authors, ‘’CONSERVATIÓN PRACTICE‘’, this report offers a specific analysis. It is a proposal to identify and articulate the values that constitute the property as a candidate for inclusion on the World Heritage List. Thus, the study proposes a detailed and systematic determination of these values, as well as the attributes of the property that support and express them.

Although the initial proposal referred to the search for references of the same typology and nature as those considered in this work—bastioned fortresses or bastioned fortified cities—it was deemed appropriate to broaden the scope of the search to other types of heritage properties whose practices of socialization and transmission of values and attributes could be useful for the bastioned series of the Raya, even if they did not share the same typological nature.

Specifically, best practices in the field of fortifications have been considered as a distinct category. The category and importance of the selected heritage sites have also been taken into account, as well as the fact that many of them may already be included on the UNESCO World Heritage List:

Finally, to facilitate greater practical application of these examples or best practices, a virtual demonstration is proposed of what some of these best or innovative references can offer.
