Creation of Heritage Impact Assessment of the concession of the cloister at the monastery for the addition of a hotel complex.
Based on 'Guidance on Heritage Impact Assessment for Cultural World Heritage Properties'
(ICOMOS 2011)
In 2016, the architectural project for the adaptation to the new hotel programme in the Rachadouro cloister, in the Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça, was assigned to the renowned architect Eduardo Souto de Moura.
ICOMOS raised concerns about some aspects of the adaptation work in progress, so the DGPC decided to request a Heritage Impact Analysis with the aim of also improving the previous documentation of the site in the areas of intervention.
At HeritArq, we were part of the team that drafted the report requested by ICOMOS, “Heritage Impact Analysis for the concession of the cloister in the monastery for the expansion of a hotel complex. Based on ‘Guidance on Heritage Impact Assessment for Cultural World Heritage Properties’ (ICOMOS 2011).
