LAS MÉDULAS

This report, entitled “Las Médulas. Footbridge and Viewpoint Project for the safe and accessible visit to the Cuevona/Encantada Valiñas Norte area. Heritage Impact Assessment”, has been drawn up on behalf of the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage of the Regional Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Regional Government of Castilla y León.

The commission arises from the intention of the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage of the same Regional Ministry to carry out a project at the site designated as a World Heritage Site, located in the municipality of Carucedo, in the province of León.

The project involves creating a new route to ensure safe and accessible visits to the Cuevona/Encantada area through the construction of a footbridge situated partially away from the steep terrain. The project has been drawn up by the Laboratory of Architectural, Heritage and Cultural Landscape, part of the University of Valladolid Science Park Foundation, which is affiliated with the university’s Higher Technical School of Architecture. The Laboratory has extensive experience in research, planning and intervention relating to architectural, archaeological and landscape heritage, having carried out numerous studies, restoration projects, rehabilitation works and initiatives to enhance cultural assets and heritage landscapes.
